Gaga Facebook's most popular friend
While some of us struggle to maintain contact with a contact list of 200-plus on Facebook, spare a thought for Lady Gaga, who this week passed 10 million followers mark on the popular social media website.
The Poker Face singer has managed to reach the milestone ahead of any other living person in the world, edging past US President Barack Obama in the social media popularity stakes. She picks up some 140,000 new followers each day and is already homing in on the 11 million friends mark. Speaking in a Facebook video to her fans, she said:
"I love you guys so much. Thank you so much for all your love and your support, and for sticking by me."
However, Lady Gaga is not the most popular person on the website. Michael Jackson has over 14 million friends despite his death in June 2009. The most popular page overall is the Texas Hold'em Poker site, with over 20 million fans.
Facebook popularity declining?
A recent study into internet usage discovered that teenagers may be tiring of Facebook. According to the report from internet gaming site Roiworld, a survey of 600 young adults between the ages of 13 and 17 found that 19 per cent are visiting the website either not at all or with less frequency.
Still, the study also found that 43 per cent of respondents were happy to part with their cash on social media websites, whether it be to pick up music, apps or avatar accessories.
