The 'Listen With' feature
Facebook has announced the launch of 'Listen With' - a new music feature that allows friends to share music in real-time.
The 'Listen With' update will give users the opportunity to share their musical tastes with Facebook friends. A music-note icon is set to appear in the chat sidebar, allowing users to listen to friends' music selection in real-time. The inclusion of the new upgrade in the chat feature could enhance online interactions on Facebook. Not only can users chat together, but they can also listen to songs in real time with a group of online friends.
On the official Facebook blog, product designer Alexandre Roche said that: "You can listen to the same song, at the exact same time--so when your favorite vocal part comes in you can experience it together, just like when you're jamming out at a performance or dance club."
The 'Listen With' feature will be rolling out over the next few weeks. It will be available to those Facebook users who stream music through services such as Spotify and Rdio.
The continual progression of Facebook
Alongside the launch of 'Listen With', it has been predicted by Gregory Lyons, senior analyst at iCrossing, that Facebook is set to pass the one billion user mark in August. The company had 800 million users in September, and while growth in the US and UK has slowed, countries such as Brazil and India are due to help Facebook reach one billion members.
Richard Frost, managing editor at theEword, said: "Such upgrades as 'Listen With' have become part of the key to Facebook's success. The new features not only create a buzz amongst existing members, but also help to draw in prospective Facebook users as the social network its kept constantly up-to-date with innovative and attractive updates."
